Australian tea tree oil is often used as a rub for sore
muscles. But it is perhaps best used for a natural
treatment for fungal infections of the skin, toenails,
or fingernails. Just paint a light coating of the oil
on the affected area 3 or 4 times a day. Even if the
fungus seems to have dissappeared, continue treatment for 2 weeks. It may take a while for a healthy nail to start growing in. (Taking zinc with this treatment willmake it even more effective. The clear liquid is very aromatic with a smell similar to that of
eucalyptus. If you purchase tea tree oil make sure the
label says that it is pure.
Nails are almost 97% protein. When healthy, they are highly resistant to tearing or breaking. However, deficiencies in diet can make nails brittle. The Chinese, Japanese, and Scottish all avoid brittle nails by eating a diet high in mineral rich kelp, which provides nutrients vital to strong nails. Kelp is available in dried or powdered form from most mail order herb and sea vegetable companies. It can also be purchased at most health food stores.
Black currant oil is very effective for healthy nail
growth. Weak and brittle nails can be strengthened by the gamma linoeic acid found in the oil. Take 500 milligrams twice a day. You should see results within two months.
For chapped hands mix a few drops of lemon oil and a few drops of glycerine, and apply to
irritated area for fast relief.
To strengthen and shine nails, combine 2 tsp. salt, 2 tsp. castor oil, and 1 tsp. wheat germ oil and mix thoroughly. Pour into bottle. Shake before using. To use, rub a small amount into your nails. Leave on 3-5 minutes and tissue off. Follow up with more plain castor oil, if desired.
