BASIC RECIPE: HERBAL SHAMPOO
½ cup rain/spring water 2 Tsp. dried herbs/4 Tsp. fresh chopped herbs
Good quality shampoo (e.g. mild baby shampoo)
Simmer the herbs in the water for 15 minutes. Leave to steep overnight.
Strain and mix with the purchased shampoo and bottle.
Chamomile: blonde hair
Yarrow and Chamomile: light hair
Rosemary: dark hair
Red Sage: dark hair
Lime flowers; Fennel or Elder flowers; Nettles
BASIC RECIPE: TONIC HAIR RINSE
25g fresh, bruised herbs/15g dried herb 2 cups boiling rainwater
Simmer the herbs for 15 minutes. Cool, strain and pour over hair
(several times if possible).
Rosemary: gives lustre, stimulates scalp, makes hair easier to set
Chamomile: good for blonde hair
Yarrow and Chamomile: for light hair
Red Sage: for dark hair
OLD HERBAL HAIR TONIC
¼ cup dried rosemary leaves 1/8 cup dried sage leaves
1 Tsp. dried nettle leaves 2 cups alcohol
1/8 cup olive oil 1/8 cup castor oil
Distilled water
Grind or chop the herbs, then soak them in the alcohol for 7 to 10 days.
Strain out the herbs and add the oils. Add just enough distilled water
to produce a milky look, then bottle.
CHAMOMILE HAIR RINSE (FOR BLONDE HAIR)
Steep 15g chamomile flowers in 2 cups boiling water in a covered
container for 30 minutes. Strain and use as rinse for blond hair.
CHAMOMILE SHAMPOO (FOR BLONDE HAIR)
Bruise 2-Tsp. leaves/flowers and put in an enamel jug. Boil 125ml
distilled water and pour over leaves, cover and allow to draw for 30
minutes, then strain. Mix well with 125ml good shampoo. Bottle and use
as a shampoo.
ROSEMARY DRY SHAMPOO
15g Fullers Earth drops rosemary oil
Pound together in a mortar and pestle. Sieve. Sprinkle powder into hair
and work well with hands. Leave for 10 minutes and then brush out with a
soft bristle brush.
SHAMPOOS FOR DANDRUFF
* An infusion of thyme and rosemary used as a rinse and massaged in
well.
* An infusion of 1-cup rosemary: 1-tsp. borax, massaged in daily.
SHAMPOO FOR GROWTH
15g southernwood 2 cups boiling rain/spring water
Infuse the herbs in the boiling water until cold. Strain and massage
into scalp twice daily. The effects are enhanced if the southernwood is
mixed with rosemary
SHAMPOO FOR THICK HAIR
1 quart white wine a handful rosemary flowers
1/2 lb. honey 1/2 cup almond oil
Distill the wine, herbs and honey together. Add the almond oil and shake
well. Pour into a cup and warm it (body temperature), then rub well into
hair, and comb dry.
