Conventional and herbal medicine argue that when stress builds up,
opportunist bacteria and viruses move in, causing coughs, colds, and flu, although some psychologist reason that these ailments provide the chance to take a much-needed rest from day-to-day responsibilities. Such ailments should not be left untreated, since colds, for example, can easily turn into more serious disorders, or leave lingering coughs and persistent phlegm. Early treatment is the answer.


Chest Coughs:
The act of coughing removes irritant particles from the airways. Chest coughs are loose and produce white, yellow, or green phlegm. Colored phlegm may indicate an infection or bronchitis.

Thyme & Lungwort Syrup
This soothing expectorant mixture is made with thyme, a useful
antiseptic for the respiratory system, and lungwort leaves, which were once said to resemble diseased lungs, hence the plant's use for chest infections.

~ Ingredients~
10g licorice juice stick ( Glycyrrhiza glabra)
750ml water
10g dried thyme( Thymus vulgaris)
10g dried lungwort leaves ( Pulmonaria officinalis)
5g dried cowslip flowers (Primula veris)
5g anise seeds (Pimpinella anisum)
500 g honey


~How To Make The Syrup~
1. Put the licorice and water in a pan and heat until the licorice has dissolved.
2. Mix the herbs and the seeds together and poue on the hot licorice
juice. Steep for 10 minutes and strain.
3. Return the strained mixture, which should amount to about 500 ml, to the pan and add the honey. Heat the mixture gently until simmering and stir constantly until the honey is dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool, pour into sterilized, dark glass bottles, and seal with cork stoppers.

~ Dosage~
Take a 5 ml dose up to 6 times a day while symptoms persist.
