High & Low Blood Pressure
In Pakistan, barley is referred to as "medicine for the
heart". Besides being a soluble fiber, barley also
contains a substance called tocotrienol. Tocotrienol
acts much like vitamin E to lower blood pressure.
The bilberry, often refered to as the European
blueberry, is useful in treating high blood pressure and
general circulation problems. The bilberries are often
given to pregnant women, as there are usually no side
effects from eating them. Warnimg: The leaves of the
plant are poisonous if used over a long period of time.
Celery contains a pthalide compound that effectively
relaxes the smooth muscle lining of blood vessels. This
widens the vessels, and so lowers blood pressure.
Ginger and ginseng both have the ability to improve
circulation and lower blood pressure.
Garlic, used in China for hundreds of years, is still
used there today for many medicinal purposes. It is also
used in Germany to decrease high blood pressure. Garlic
allows blood vessels to dilate because it has a relaxing
effect on the smooth muscles that surround blood
vessels. Raw garlic seems to be more potent than cooked garlic.
For over 5,000 years, millions os Asians have taken 2 to
3 grams of ginseng daily to lower cholesterol. Ginseng
also dialates blood vessels, reducing blood pressure.
Mackerel is a fatty fish. Because much of the fat is in
the form of omega-3 fatty acids, it is beneficial to
your heart. One German study indicated thar eating 3
ounces of mackerel a day can lower blood pressure.
The Chinese find another hypertension remedy in
mulberries, which they refer to as Hsun or T'an. They
use the mulberries to make a jam called Sang-hen-kao.
This delicious jam is said to improve circulation and
lower blood pressure, thereby preventing heart attacks.
Russian folk healers recommend that you drink 1/2 cup of
raw beat juice if you have any of the symptoms of low
blood pressure, like waking up in the morning fatigued,
or getting dizzy when changing position (from lying or
sitting to standing). However, other problems can cause
the same symptoms. So to be really sure, have your
doctor check your blood pressure.
Sometimes, the health risk comes not from high blood
pressure (hypertension), but from low blood pressure
(hypotension). In cases of hypotension, the blood
pressure is simply too low to sustain the proper
functioning of the circulatory system. The patient has
little energy because blood is not supplied quickly
enough or in great enough quanity to the major organs
and extremities. The Egyptians use the Mediterranean sea
onion for this problem. The vegetable provides a
powerful heart stimulant that is recognized by medical
experts worldwide.
We nap ish and ashnum asho are Native American names for
the hawthorn berry, eaten raw to prevent heart attacks.
A report in British Medical Journal found that the
berries reduce high blood pressure caused by
arteriosclerosis and kidney disease.

Muscle tissue improves your body's ability to regulate sodium, a key for blood pressure control. Tone your muscles by lifting weights a minimum of 10 minutes, 3 times per week.
HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE LINKED TO DRINKING
Snacking on protein-rich sunflower seeds may help lower your blood pressure. Recent research shows that a diet with ample amounts of vegetable protein, such as the protein found in sunflower seeds, may help keep blood pressure down. A diet high in animal protein offered no such benefit in the study. Stock up on sunflower seeds, cashews, and kidney beans to get your fill of blood
pressure-lowering veggie protein.
